When it came down to it, we were on vacation so I didn't want the hassle of making a cake in a strange kitchen. So we had to go with a store bought cake again this year. Walmart and Sam's Club actually have really yummy cakes but they were farther away than Kroger so we went with Kroger when it came time to order. We took Cason with us one night so he could figure out what he wanted on his cake. That day we asked him what he wanted and he said "airplane". So we came full circle. While we were ordering it, he saw other cakes with sprinkles and he wanted them on his own cake so we requested that. When the man asked him what color he wanted, he replied green. So we ended up ordering a cake with an airplane and sprinkles, with green somewhere on it.
When we went to pick it up on Wednesday (two days before his birthday but I needed some cake already!), it was easily the ugliest cake I had ever seen. We bought a can of blue frosting and when we got home, I did my best to scrape off the white airplane they had drawn and Kelly redid the airplane and his name.
The before. The airplane looks like a hot dog. Or a big toe. And notice his name in cursive, because so many 3 year olds can read cursive!
The after. Still in the running for the ugly cake contest but not as ugly as before.
Honestly, we probably didn't have to redo it. Cason was happy with it before Kelly redid it. He obviously didn't care at all what it looked like, he just wanted to eat some cake!
Here is after everyone had one piece. There were conveniently four adults and four corner pieces. We all love frosting so I cut a corner for each adult and a small piece for each of the boys. They don't know the joy of corner pieces and I'm not too keen on sharing that info with them just yet.
I live for desserts and cake is probably my all time favorite food ever. So I'm pretty critical of the taste. It was just okay. I've had much better before. But all the boys enjoyed it and that's what matters the most.
