April randomness

This is going to be pretty random. I haven't updated much lately because we haven't done anything very exciting. So this is just a collection of random tidbits and pictures that didn't deserve a post of their own.

Monday I picked up Cason from preschool and was getting the papers out of his box when I saw a piece of paper that said "Colt". I assumed that it was his classmate's paper that got misplaced in his box and I was about to say something when his teacher spoke up. She said that Cason had written that himself, he asked his teachers how to spell Colt's name and then wrote it down. I was so surprised. Cason has never really been into drawing or writing letters. He has a few letter tracing type toys but never wants to use them to actually trace letters. I have never pushed it because he's only 3 and I'm sure in time he will be able to write them so I wanted him to do it when he is ready. A week or two ago, he was drawing and said he wrote an A. I looked over and it was just a scribble so I drew an A for him. He copied it and next thing we knew, he is an A writing machine. He has been able to do C's and O's for awhile but doesn't like to draw them on command. He also recently learned L's and Q's but it was more like he drew them on accident and when he realized they looked like letters, he just kept drawing them more and more. Last week, he brought me a piece of paper that said CASO. So close! Now he doesn't like to write his name if we ask him, I guess it has to be HIS idea. Anyway, here is his "Colt" which he will now proudly spell for you on his own. I thought it was pretty good!

He is more into books than toys these days. Mostly Berenstain Bears books. He loves to sleep with them too. And yes, he always sleeps sideways in his bed.

Kelly likes to have handstand practice in the afternoon or evening and the boys are getting pretty good at headstands.

Cason would live in his pajamas if we let them. A week or so ago, I wanted to go for a walk after dinner. I thought it was hot out so I told Cason to put his shorts on. Initially he said no but when I insisted he replied "fine! I'm wearing both!" He then put his shorts on OVER his pajama pants. Totally missing the point but it ended up not being all that hot outside after all.

Kelly took the boys to the zoo last week. They all had a good time and this was pretty much the only picture Kelly could get.

Yesterday I was in the kitchen cleaning up lunch and Bryce was standing on a step ladder playing with magnets. He kept saying "m. m. m." I finally turned around and saw him holding the M magnet. I was surprised because I've never really gone over letters with him because he hasn't shown much interest. I grabbed the I and asked him what letter it was. He replied "I!" So then I grabbed the B and asked him what it was and he got that one right too. Then I got an alphabet book and turned to each page, asking him what letter was on each page and he got probably half of them right!

Just a random picture of Bryce with Cason's underwear on his head.

And a cute one of him with Kelly's hat.

Roaonke pictures

My friend, Lacy, has been working on her photography for almost a year now and has gotten really good. Her boys are getting tired of posing for her so she offered to take pictures of my kids for practice so of course we wanted to take her up on that offer! I thought that maybe a nearby small town would be a cool place to take pictures and she drove up there to check it out. We were both super impressed with all the personality this tiny little downtown area has. The boys were fairly cooperative but grew tired of the fun before we had even seen everything. I'd love to go back again sometime and try for some more pictures. Here is just a sample of some of the great shots Lacy got. The color looks off on some of these here. I swear Blogger always messes with the coloring on my photos. They look much better in iphoto. Thanks so much Lacy for taking these, they will look great on our wall and in our next book!

Love this smile.

Such a cool bench.

Stashing rocks in his pocket.

Did NOT want to sit here.

His two best buddies.

I can't decide if I like this one best...

or this one. Cason is getting so big!

Ha ha, I thought this would make a fun photo. Would have been cuter if he would have posed or added a little personality of his own. He just looks scared.

Great one of Cason!

I love this one too! He was over the picture taking so we had to work hard to make him laugh.

Another of my great ideas. He got scared and he sticks his tongue out when he's nervous.

I love this background so much!

Cute! You can't even tell that Rycie did NOT want Cason's arm around him at all.
