We put him down for nap and were hoping that having his eyes closed for several hours would make his eye feel better. After more than 3 hours of sleeping, I finally woke him up and he was still irritable and wouldn't open his eyes much. We knew we had to take him somewhere. We called our eye doctor but they said they wouldn't see anyone under age 4. So we called his normal pediatrician but they said they didn't have the equipment to look at his cornea and told us to go to Cook Children's Emergency Clinic.
We headed there and it actually went very smoothly. There was hardly any wait in the waiting room and we got back to see the doctor really quickly. We had to hold him down so they could put some drops in his eyes and look at it with a thing that looked like a black light. He of course hated being restrained and screamed and fought the whole time. There was a big scratch right across the front of his cornea. They put some antibiotic goo in his eye and then taped a patch over it. We were given a prescription for some antibiotic eye drops to use 3 times a day for the next 5 days and told to keep the patch on for 24 hours. Bryce ripped the patch off the second we sat him up. They taped it back on and we talked him into keeping it on the rest of the night. They also gave him some motrin and that seemed to help him feel better pretty quickly.
Here are a few pictures after bath.
I went to check on him before I went to bed and the patch was thrown on the floor. Not surprised about that!
I figured he would fight it all day Saturday but he actually wore it all day and was feeling much better by the time he woke up.
