Last Friday night, at the Parade of Lights, we were walking around downtown, waiting for our "to go" food to be ready. All of the sudden, Kelly says loudly, "Do you know who that is? That is the man himself. THAT is the GAC-Daddy."
I was so confused. I thought, surely this must be a captain that he knows from work that he is about to introduce me to. The man that Kelly was referring to was walking in our direction anyway but he turned and smiled. Kelly walked over to him, and started talking to him. They shook hands and then I figured out who it was. It was Randy Galloway, a talk show host on ESPN Radio. GAC-Daddy comes from his show, Galloway and Company, in case you were wondering. Anyway, Kelly complimented Mr. Galloway and told him how much he enjoys listening to his show. He even got Cason to do his "Oh no Romo!" bit and say "Cows lose, Cows lose, Cows stink" that he taught him to say. That line is straight from Randy Galloway so he got a good laugh out of it.
This is not the first time Kelly has recognized someone famous. On our way to Maui to get married in 2003, we had just stepped off the plane in Dallas on our flight from Orlando. I was making a beeline for the restrooms and Kelly was walking right along with me when all of the sudden he stopped, turned to me, said something excitedly, then hurried off in the opposite direction. Again, I was totally confused so I just stared at him as he was running off. Turns out, he spotted Michael Irvin (former Dallas Cowboy and Hall of Famer). He chased him down and shook his hand and told him that he enjoyed watching him play for the Cowboys. He actually chased him right out of security and I had his boarding pass. I had to pass it to him via the TSA so he could go through security again.
Last year, we were driving around the pedestrian mall, looking for a parking spot. All of the sudden, Kelly rolled down the window and yelled "Hey Babe!". Babe Laufenberg (former Cowboys quarterback, now a sports announcer and does sports on the news) happened to be walking down the sidewalk. He smiled and waved back at Kelly. It was over before I realized what was happening.
One night last year, I was sitting at home waiting for Kelly to return from a trip. He called me on his phone when they were sitting on the ramp. He mentioned that the guy next to him, right across the aisle, looked like Jason Newsted (played bass for Metallica). He said he was watching him out of the corner of his eye the whole flight and he was pretty sure it was him. He was debating saying something to him. I told him to go for it. As they left the plane and were walking up the bridgeway, Kelly said something along the lines of "Would I be the first person today to say that you look like Jason Newsted from Metallica?" The guy quickly said "nope" and walked away. His girlfriend said something like "Jason, don't be like that." So Kelly asked her if that was Jason Newsted and she said yes. Jason turned around and came back to talk to Kelly. He was even nice enough to let Kelly take a picture with him on his cell phone. That made Kelly's day because Metallica is one of his favorite bands.
Me? I don't think I've ever seen anyone famous but I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't recognize them even if I did. I'm terrible with faces. It would have to be someone with super unique features like Will Smith or someone. Anyway, Kelly really has a knack for recognizing people. He has also talked to Robert Gallery (former Iowa Hawkeye, now an Oakland Raider) in an elevator at a hotel, Eddie George (former Heisman trophy winner from OSU, played for the Cowboys and the Tennessee Titans) in the Nashville airport, Mike Golic (co-host of ESPN 2 Mike & Mike in the Morning) at an airport in Greensboro, and Ron Jaworski (former Eagles QB, current co-host of ESPN Monday Night Football) in the Columbus airport. Those are all people he has shook hands with and spoken to. Notice a trend? Kelly knows sports people.
He's seen lots of other famous people but didn't get a chance to talk to them. At an FBO in Teterboro, he saw Paula Abdul (who he claims smiled at him), Ryan Seacrest, Greg Norman, and Warren Buffett all in the same day. He also saw Gary Sinise in an airport in Chicago. I have a feeling that this will happen again. And based on history, it will probably be someone related to sports and I will be so lost.

Nice work on posting every day. I'm impressed. I think if Dave were going up to famous people to talk to them, I'd be so embarrassed I'd probably just turn around and walk away. That cracks me up.
Back many, many years ago when Denny and I went to the Rosebowl we were walking into our hotel and I saw someone and I screamed "That's Lassie's Mom!"
She didn't hear me, thank goodness, it was June Lockhart (sp?) but I'm so stupid that I couldn't remember her name just that she was on the Lassie show. I won't ever see famous people cause I can't figure out why any of these people are famous anyway....who made the Kardashians famous and why? Who cares about the Gosselin's and who made them famous?
