Last week I wanted to see if I could teach Cason how to rhyme words. He picked up on it pretty quickly. I taped him this morning rhyming for me. A few thoughts about the video:
1. Please ignore all of my um's. So annoying.
2. Sorry for the lighting. He insists that I flip the screen around so he can see himself so I can't really see what the camera is looking at.
3. I thought he was doing really good until I watched this and realized that about 70% of the time, he just says a word that rhymes that starts with h, even if it's not a real word.
4. Can you tell that we read a lot of Dr. Seuss?

Overcoming his fear
It is so funny how ever since Cason became afraid of goats, we have seen them everywhere. We are always reading books and Cason will point out a goat that we've never noticed before. We see goats at the zoo, we see goats (stuffed) at Cabela's. Our neighbor (hi Jenny!) had a birthday party a few weeks ago for her kids and they had a little petting zoo come to their house. I didn't prep Cason for it because it was super cold that day and I didn't know if the animals would be there or not. That day, we woke Cason up from his nap and took him over there and there were a couple baby goats. The animal owner, who was holding one of the baby goats, brought him over for Cason to pet. Cason announced very loudly and matter of factly, "I don't yike goats." No big deal, but we did encourage him to pet it and after a few minutes, he got brave and gave it a (very) quick pet.
Last night, Kelly and I rented "Food Inc". It was not nearly as shocking as we expected it to be but was a good film anyway. We already only buy beef and chicken that is hormone free and antibiotic free but after watching the documentary, I did a quick search on the internet looking for better local options. I found a small farm stand only a mile or two from our house that sells good local grass fed meat and a small amount of organic produce. We decided to go check it out today after the boys woke up from nap. As soon as we pulled in, we saw a big pen of goats. As I got Cason out of his car seat, I said, "hear the goats? They're talking to you!" So we walked over to check them out and he actually seemed to like it.
He pet them and everything. (Lou Ann -- notice my shirt. It fits great, thanks again!)

I LOVE this picture.

Cason was disappointed that they didn't have goat cheese because he wanted to try it. All of their goats are pregnant so they don't make milk I guess. They said to stop back in a month or two. So we will have to go back to see goat babies and let him try some goat cheese. Tonight he kept telling us that he likes goats now and he's not scared of them anymore.

It's that time of year again
Kelly and I are very indecisive when it comes to some things. One of those is where we want to live when we can afford a bigger house. Every summer, without fail, we swear that Texas is way too hot and we are going to move north. We talk about how great it would be to live near family back home in Iowa. Or we say that Colorado is gorgeous and we should give that a shot. Then every winter, without fail, we remember how much we hate the cold, snow, and ice and think maybe staying in Texas isn't such a bad idea. It's always nice to have a January day that is nice enough to wear shorts.

New grill
Kelly just got this awesome new grill/smoker.

It's not a gas grill and it's not a charcoal grill. It's a wood pellet grill. It acts like a convection oven and uses indirect heat to keep things juicier. It is supposed to be healthier because it doesn't create charring on food like other grills do. It's also an awesome smoker. Instead of having to attend to it every twenty minutes like his old smoker, he should be able to set the temperature and just leave it alone. No charcoal briquettes to keep up with.
The wood pellets.

Tonight he grilled up some chicken breasts and burgers. My burger is the cheddar burger I requested. It has cheese cubes inside the patty and he put a slice of american cheese on top as well. I usually like green onions in it too but we didn't have any. Kelly's burger is a greek burger with olives and feta cheese. My burger was delicious, probably the juiciest burger I have ever had.

Bryce has decided he is so over eating anything off a spoon. He went to town gnawing on a stick of asparagus and some baked sweet potato fries.

Worst haircut ever
Cason's hair has looked really bad lately. We were trying to grow it out and see how it would look kind of shaggy. But every day for the last 6 or 7 weeks now, I would look at it and think "oh man, that looks so bad. I want to cut it." I'm very impatient and didn't know if I could make it past the awkward phase. Finally I came to the conclusion that his hair is just too thin and I really don't think it would look good longer. So today we set off to get his hair trimmed up.
We quickly realized that even though New Year's Day doesn't mean a whole lot to us (because we're so lame), it meant something to most businesses out there. So we went with plan B, go walk around the mall so I could share a pretzel and a cookie with Cason. Just before we left the mall, we saw a haircut place so we figured we'd give it a shot. The lady started cutting his hair and it didn't look too bad until she said "oh I just need to get his bangs" and cut them straight across. Kelly and I were speechless. It looked SO bad.
Look familiar?

How about now?

So we did the only thing we could do, come home and get the clippers out to fix it the best we could. We're back to the marine corp look for now but at least it's better than the Lloyd 'do or the shaggy look.
