Overcoming his fear

It is so funny how ever since Cason became afraid of goats, we have seen them everywhere. We are always reading books and Cason will point out a goat that we've never noticed before. We see goats at the zoo, we see goats (stuffed) at Cabela's. Our neighbor (hi Jenny!) had a birthday party a few weeks ago for her kids and they had a little petting zoo come to their house. I didn't prep Cason for it because it was super cold that day and I didn't know if the animals would be there or not. That day, we woke Cason up from his nap and took him over there and there were a couple baby goats. The animal owner, who was holding one of the baby goats, brought him over for Cason to pet. Cason announced very loudly and matter of factly, "I don't yike goats." No big deal, but we did encourage him to pet it and after a few minutes, he got brave and gave it a (very) quick pet.

Last night, Kelly and I rented "Food Inc". It was not nearly as shocking as we expected it to be but was a good film anyway. We already only buy beef and chicken that is hormone free and antibiotic free but after watching the documentary, I did a quick search on the internet looking for better local options. I found a small farm stand only a mile or two from our house that sells good local grass fed meat and a small amount of organic produce. We decided to go check it out today after the boys woke up from nap. As soon as we pulled in, we saw a big pen of goats. As I got Cason out of his car seat, I said, "hear the goats? They're talking to you!" So we walked over to check them out and he actually seemed to like it.

He pet them and everything. (Lou Ann -- notice my shirt. It fits great, thanks again!)

I LOVE this picture.

Cason was disappointed that they didn't have goat cheese because he wanted to try it. All of their goats are pregnant so they don't make milk I guess. They said to stop back in a month or two. So we will have to go back to see goat babies and let him try some goat cheese. Tonight he kept telling us that he likes goats now and he's not scared of them anymore.

How funny! At the zoo last week I caught Collin trying to kiss a goat.
